THERE WERE NO medals in yesterday’s competition, and the future hopes took a hit as several more Barbadians were eliminated at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.Darian King is the lone survivor as three of the four tennis players were all knocked out in the first round. King defeated Pablo Nuñez 6-4, 6-1, but will now have to play the No.1 seed Victor Estrella of the Dominican Republic.Haydn Lewis put up a very good fight before losing 7-5, 5-7, 2-6 to the No.6 seed Roman Recarte of Venezuela. Trailing 5-2 in the first set, Lewis fought back to win the first 7-5 and even took an early 2-0 lead in the second. However, he was immediately broken by Recarte who went on to win that set and the final one.On the girls’ side, Ancia Ifill was beaten 6-0, 6-1 by Costa Rica’s Laura Viquez and Alyssa Fuentes also went down 6-1, 6-3 to Bermuda’s Jacklin Lambert.As a pair, King and Lewis were successful in the men’s doubles, advancing to the next round after beating Nicholas Bass and Brian Oldfield of the United States Virgin Islands 6-3, 6-4.Fuentes and Ifill were beaten 6-3, 6-4 by Caitlin Gordon and Tara Lambert of Bermuda.In athletics, according to the unofficial results moments after the women’s shot put was completed, Keisha Walkes finished fourth with 15.50 metres. The event was won by Cleopatra Borrel-Brown of Trinidad and Tobago with 18.76 metres.The men’s volleyball team lost their third straight match, a hard-fought 3-0 defeat 25-23, 25-23, 27-25 to Trinidad and Tobago.In cycling, Shane Weekes finished tenth in the men’s 1Km time trial and in archery, John Morris was way down the field in the men’s individual compound qualifying.The boxing contingent also suffered. Adrian Biscette, Omar Ward and Damian Sealy all lost on Sunday night, but Anderson Emmauel was still in the hunt, scheduled to take on Ruben Guerrero in the very last bout last night.The women’s hockey team was also taking on Bermuda.
