IT WAS 24 HOURS of non-stop action with the best in soca, some of the best calypso artistes and deejays – and it ended only a few hours ago.Now in its second year, the Brewsters Road Crew produced a one-of-a-kind soca-theme party for all to enjoy – even those from as far away as Italy.Like last year, krosfyah started the sunrise session two hours after the gates opened. The morning sun seemed much hotter when they shifted gears to cause a soca frenzy with their 2010 releases, like Edwin Yearwood’s Chrissening and Sunrise, Tony Rebel’s Never Cheat On You and Khiomal’s Don’t Tell Me Nuttin.Despite the early hour, the heat rose even when the band went back 20 years to old anchor hits like Crank De Motor, Voice In My Head and Yardie. Barbados’ newest band, Soca Kartel featuring Blood and Mikey, sent the party into another frenzy.Interchanging with songs from separate careers – Blood with songs like Bandana and 2010 release Foot On Fire, and Mikey with Come Together and I In Dat – the two had The Whole Place Mash Up. Later, even as the Harbour Road crowd got smaller, they enjoyed the music of Lorenzo, Brett Linton, Hypa Sound and Mr Dale. When St Vincent’s Skinny Fabulous hit the stage – everything was Charged Up and then some. At lunch time, those left behind were fed a feast of soca sweetness, but not without the icing on the cake that was Red Plastic Bag, who sang Something’s Happening and his latest, La La, and Trinidad’s five-time monarch and living kaiso legend Black Stalin who sang favourites like Come Wid It and Black Man.
