Ex-taxman did it for country

SOMEONE RECENTLY teased him: “You better not go to the doctor. I understand he has a special needle for you.”  And Forde reacted with a chuckle.
With that response, the recently retired Deputy Commissioner of Inland Revenue acknowledged he is perhaps one of the most disliked people in Barbados, especially at this time of year.
Now out of the hot seat, he is unapologetic for the tough stance he has taken against tax defaulters, bringing them before the courts for failure to file returns.
In a candid interview with the SUNDAY SUN, Forde pointed out that his action stemmed from a passion for his job and his determination to ensure that Government collected as much of the revenue owed to keep the country going, “especially in these hard times of recession”.
