The second Barbados Inter-Alumni Associations’ Athletic Championships, organized by the Alleyne School Alumni Association, will take place at the National Stadium on July 13, starting at 8 a.m.
The vision of this event is to create closer bonds among alumni associations/old scholars’ associations in Barbados, enhance school pride among the younger generation, and fill the competition void for athletes who are no longer in the school system but wish to continue in the sport.
Currently, there is limited competition in track and field for the majority of athletes between ages of 20 and 49.
The competition is open to representatives of all alumni associations or old scholars associations of all public and private schools in Barbados. The age groups will range in ten-year bands from 20 to 49 years and in five-year bands from 50 to 100 years.
All track and field events, except the high jump and the hurdles, will be on the programme. The triple jump and javelin will be contested as open events.
Athletes are allowed to enter no more than five age-group events.
However, alumni associations are restricted to no more than three athletes per event in the 20 to 49 age groups and no more than two athletes per event in the 50-plus age groups.
Registration forms will be placed at various locations across Barbados. The deadline for entries is June 20 and all relevant registration fees must be paid. (PR/SAT)
