BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Apr 26, CMC -Barbados is interested in entering into an agreement with the People’s Republic of China for the establishment of a Mutual Legal System.
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite met with the Chinese Ambassador Xu Hong and a government statement issued afterwards quoted Brathwaite as saying that a draft document was prepared and reviewed, and suggestions made for consideration to be given to stipulated areas.
“The Attorney General said that while government was giving the go ahead to sign the proposed treaties with the People’s Republic of China, some substantive issues were raised and needed to be reviewed,” the statement said, quoting Ambassador Xu as saying he believed the cooperation between the two countries could be strengthened with the signing of the agreement, and he hoped to receive a response so negotiations could begin.
The two officials also discussed the possibility of having programmes that would lend assistance to at risk youth.
Barbados and China established diplomatic relations in 1977.
