Footballers aren’t the only ones getting a kick from the newly renovated Wildey AstroTurf.
Some residents of St Elizabeth Park, a nearby residential district about a half mile from football’s newest facility, have complained about the lights and noise which they have had to endure whenever games are played there.
But the president of the Barbados Football Association (BFA), Randy Harris, believes that the complaints stem from blatant discrimination against football at the venue.
When WEEKEND SPORT visited the area this week, one resident, who declined to give his name, revealed that a group of residents from the area had written to the Chief Town Planner Mark Cummins on the issue.
“When the AstroTurf was being built, we were made aware that the Chief Town Planner directed that no permanent or temporary lights be erected on the site,” the resident of over 30 years said.
“So we don’t know if there was a change of heart from the Chief Town Planner and he gave the go-ahead for lights to be erected, but it has become a concern for some of us.”
