Having established her place in the world of entertainment, Barbadian international pop star Shontelle is now putting a definitive Bajan stamp on fashion with her Cat Footwear X Shontelle shoe line.
Last year she signed a deal with Caterpillar Inc., one of the largest footwear companies in the world, to collaborate with them on a new line of boots as the company seeks to get a firm foothold in the United States’ fashion market.
There are ongoing negotiations with major United States department stores to have Cat Footwear X Shontelle placed on their shelves, but Shontelle reports the spring 2012 collection placed in Cat stores around the globe has been doing well.
According to the singing star, the first season of the line “is very special”, since she used it as a medium to push Barbados by naming every boot style after a place in the island.
For example, one boot is called Bridgetown; another, Sandy Lane; yet another, College – after her alma mater Harrison College.
She also created a monogram with the broken trident for the lining of every boot and is thrilled “people all over the world are going to be walking around with a symbol of Barbados”.
“Whether they know what it means or not, I decided Barbados needs to be branded,” the Bajan beauty told EASY Magazine shortly after she arrived in Barbados for her headliner performance at this year’s Cohobblopot.
“I am really excited about this,” Shontelle remarked about the shoe deal, acknowledging “one day the voice will go”. (GC)
