Well finally, all the lot o’ noise and stress, confusion and anticipation, and what evah else dat was happening during the lead up tuh the elections is ovah. Now dat the dust has settled and the people of Barbados have made the decision as tuh who duh want tuh Govern dem fuh the next five years, thank God things could now get back tuh normal.
The truth is, I really ain’t want tuh guh back and talk ’bout the elections, who get in, who get out, who lost duh seat, who almost get a heart attack when the votes was being counted and announced; who break down and cry, who expected and didn’t get; who was a minister yesterday and today is just there like anybody else nor who give ’way and give out a whole lot but ain’t get back what they expected.
Tuh be honest wid ya, I glad enough um done. Stupppsse! People did getting me too sick.
Look, I see big people start tuh get on like li’l children, quarrelling and carrying on like duh ain’t had nuh kinda common sense. I see big able men and women cussing out one another who dem know, fuh politicians who dem ain’t know one damn thing ’bout.
I hear big people who I would consider real intelligent, talking more junk, summuch so dat today I have tuh look at dem through totally different eyes boh. My mother always used tuh say, education ain’t common sense and common sense ain’t common, dat woman was wise.
I know dat now dat things have gone back tuh normal so tuh speak, duh got a lot o’ people who ain’t speaking tuh one another today and I mean some family members too, hear?
Duh also got some other people who today shame enough fuh the way duh get during the campaign trail. But, look, while dem now trying tuh mend the fences dat duh tear down, the politicians now got a whole different kind o’ mess and stress tuh deal wid.
First of all, the Prime Minister has tuh choose a deputy. As the song says, “a deputy essential”, but ya know he nor David Thompson nevah had none so dat in itself right now is stress fuh him.
It is also a different kinda stress now fuh the ones in the team who want tuh be the deputy, the ones who think dat dem should be the deputy, the ones who believe dat dem deserve to be the deputy or even the ones who expect tuh be. All o’ dat is stress.
So while some foolish people ’bout here still quarrelling and carrying on or wallowing in the victory, all o’ the politicians have now shed duh red or yellow T-shirts, donned duh big suits and have gone long back tuh work and leh muh tell ya, duh got nuff wuk tuh do ’bout here so duh better get cracking.
But before I close off fuh this week, let me say congratulations tuh all parliamentarians who got back duh seats in both parties and a bigger congratulations tuh the new people like Dwight Sutherland, Santia Bradshaw, Maria Agard, Edmund Hinkson and Jeffrey Bostic who will join wid the other older members of the Opposition team tuh represent us in Parliament.
It is also good tuh see the amount o’ women, both new and old, who will be representing us in Parliament fuh the next five years. It is necessary tuh have women in the house of Assembly. Now the Leader of the Opposition is a woman.
God has been good tuh Barbados. He has always blessed us wid strong, sound leaders and I pray dat He will continue tuh keep His hand ovah us and bless this li’l nation as it goes through this transition period.
