THIRTEEN BARBADIAN YOUTHS between the ages of six and 12 recently spent what they called nine wonderful days in St Kitts and Nevis, ministering at children’s homes and schools and to senior citizens through the medium of dance.
The group returned to Barbados Saturday night with spokeswoman Patricia Evanson, leader of the dance team Promise, declaring the trip fulfilled its objectives.
These were: giving the Word to others through dance, as well as exposing the youngsters to other cultures and allowing them to see that there were persons less fortunate than they were.
“The reception in St Kitts and Nevis was wonderful and in addition to the dance of the children we showed the movies Hush 1 and 2, which were well appreciated by the mature audience in those islands,” Evanson said.
She indicated that the group stood in awe when a 102-year-old lady who had seemed motionless held up her hand and asked for an encore from the dancers.
“At the end of the second performance, she stated, ‘I am a winner’!” Evanson reported.
Promise is part of Praise Academy of Dance. The dance term at Praise started yesterday, the same day the school term started, and Evanson is asking parents to consider enrolling their children in one of the six teams at the academy. (KB)
