Dialysis patients have been forced to turn to private pharmacies for three life-saving drugs.
However, it is coming at a high price – for example, more than $1 000 for a single month-long dose of mircera.
The situation is fuelling anxiety among some dialysis patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) who are finding it hard to come up with the money.
Kidney patients were recently informed about the lack of drugs venofer, mircera and recormon, a critical part of their treatment. Together the drugs can run into hundreds of dollars monthly.
