Solar company on full power

THE SOLAR POWER industry in Barbados is set to heat up following yesterday’s official launch of Superior Solar Power Solutions.
The Lodge Hill, St Michael business will initially focus on the manufacture, sale, rental and service of solar water heating systems in Barbados before moving into the photovoltaic field and expanding regionally.
The company already employs 20 people and this number is expected to rise to over 30 within a year.
Chairman Richie Alleyne noted that while less than a third of Barbadian households currently had solar systems, Barbados had more systems per capita than anywhere else in the Caribbean.
“We were attracted to this business by the several incentives currently in place and we encourage Government to continue to be a catalyst for renewable energy.
“Surely to replace the costly importation of oil with the utilisation of the abundant God-given energy makes a lot of sense, particularly economic sense,” he said.
Alleyne said it was expected that photovoltaics would become a major part of the business after it is introduced next year.
Director of sales Vernon Price said Superior Solar would be catering to the commercial and residential sectors as well as Government.
He said the company would also be servicing any brand of solar water heater, offering in-house financing and also facilitating the trade-in of existing systems. (NB)
