WOMEN’S?INTERNATIONAL cricket will take centre stage in Barbados from tomorrow when the first ever women’s Twenty20tri-nation series in the Caribbean beginsat Kensington Oval.
Waves splashing on the picturesque south coast formed the perfect setting yesterdayas three of cricket’s most outstanding ambassadors launched the inauguralseries at the Accra Hotel.
West Indies’ captain Merissa Aguilleira flashed her now trademark smile; England’s skipper Charlotte Edwards beamed likea fun-loving tourist on a dream vacation, while New Zealand’s captain Suzie Bates added some light-hearted banter that would make Mohammed Ali proud.
Aguilleira said the crowds for the recent ODI series in Jamaica were “wonderful”and she has enough confidencein the cricket-loving Barbadian publicto boldly predict “good numbersof supporters will show up” forthe seven matches at the “Mecca”.
