CAPTAIN Winston Leslie Fitzgerald Phillips is scheduled to appear in court today to answer eight drugs charges.
The 48-year-old Guyanese national is captain of the ship Rudisa Global, which is berthed at the Bridgetown Port.
Phillips will face charges of possession of two kilos of cocaine, possession with intent to supply and trafficking and importation of cocaine. He is also facing similar charges of trafficking, importation and possession of 37 pounds of marijuana, as well as intent to supply.
He will appear in the District A Magistrate Court today.
A joint operation by members of the Customs and Excise Department, Drug Squad, Police Canine Unit, Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard was carried out last Friday.
This ship transports cement and the crew comprises Guyanese and Surinamese nationals. (PR)
