Carlton and Genesis keep the fire burning

Queens 8000 Inc. Carlton and former champions Eve Genesis continued their destruction of lesser teams when the Barbados Football Association’s women league kicked off its second round on Sunday at two different venues.
Playing at Lester Vaughan, Carlton maintained their bid for a fourth successive title with a 5-1 whipping of Technique with ‘golden boot’ player Aaliyah Alleyne striking a hat-trick to carry her tally for the season to nine goals.
Alleyne struck in the 13th, 17th, and 43rd minutes while Sabrina Thompson scored in the 85th and Nickeisha Anthony’s in the 89th sealed Technique’s fate.  
The talented Shannon Gibson had pulled a goal back for Technique in the 29th minute.
When the action rolled across to the National Stadium, Genesis showed what real destruction was with a 9-0 blitz of the hapless Barbados Women’s Football Academy.  
Shanice Stevenson only scored one goal but that did not stop the flood of five from Kerry Trotman and a triple from diminutive defender Elsa Walcott.
University of the West Indies and the National Sports Council battled to a 1-1 draw with a shortage of players seeing the NSC playing the match with eight and then nine women.  
That proved to be NSC’s good fortune as Barbados goalkeeper Rhea Holder played as striker to score the first goal of her career.  
Cosette Brathwaite had put UWI up in the first ten minutes of the game. (KB)
