Race fans who took the time to attend the first day Barbados Turf’s Club third and final season of racing for this year could not have asked for a more entertaining afternoon.
A good crowd was on hand to witness Areyoutalkintome take the Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders Association Breeders Classic for Barbados bred three-year-olds and older over 1 800 metres, in tremendous fashion.
The Joseph-owned colt stormed to victory in a commendable time of one minute, 49 4/5 seconds.
From the start, Areyoutalkintome went straight to the lead, and established a four length gap on the field. Amanyara and Show Me The Money tracked the leader, followed by Erados, Zoom, Walk On By and Up The Ante.
The positions remained unchanged up to the three furlong marker, at which time Show Me The Money took closer order, with Amanyara in hot pursuit and the others hard pressed to close the gap.
Still restrained, Areyoutalkintome was asked for an effort by jockey Anderson Trotman, and the pair sailed home by three and a quarter lengths.
The winning margin could have easily been greater, but jockey Trotman, having settled the issue in a flash, eased the colt considerably as the win was comfortably in the bag.
“Everything went perfect, just awesome. He was extremely sharp.Iit was an amazing victory for us,” trainer Saffie Joseph Jr told SUNSPORT.
The trainer also hinted that next for this winner could be a trip abroad, or the Victor Chandler Stakes and Trophy.
The day’s second feature race was not to be any less of a spectacle, as the island’s most forward two-year-olds ran their hearts out in the Elliot Williams Memorial Juvenile Breeders’ Championship Stakes and Trophy over 1 100 metres.
When the dust settled, Sir Charles and Lady Williams-owned filly Slip Stream left little doubt as to her class, as she completely dominated her opposition in a time of one minute five and one fifth seconds.
Must Be The Money broke on top but jockey Anderson Trotman soon sent Slip Stream to the front with a five-length lead.
Early signs showed that the others behind were going to find chasing the leader a tough ask, and Must Be The Money, Istanbul, Indian Soul, Fernandina, Never Turn Right, Areuserious and Nuclear all trailed in that order.
As the field approached the two furlong marker, it was only a matter of how far Slip Stream would win by, and in the end the distance was four lengths.
Must Be The Money (Jalon Samuel) took second, Fernandina (Kyle Carter) ran on to be third, while Areuserious (Kenny John) came from a long way back to get the fourth spot.
“She’s probably the fastest horse I have ever bred, and I was desperate to win this race which we’ve sponsored (Williams Group of companies). The trainer bought her fighting fit and the jockey rode a great race on what can only be describe as a magnificent race track; I have not seen this track in this condition for over 35 years” said the owner.
Sir Charles Williams further stated: “I warned jockey Trotman to make sure he fly out those gates like a scald cat, and as a friend of mine once told his race day rider, go to the front and improve your position, and that Trotman understood.”
Lord Michael Taylor’s Peaceful Envoy continues to improve with another comfortable come-from-behind victory in the Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders Association 25th Anniversary Trophy handicap for three-year-olds and older horses rated 0-140 over 1100 metres.
Leading rider Anderson Troman scored a third winner of the day for Sir Charles Williams, aboard the filly Kendal Moon.
