High praise for Warrican

DHAKA – Captain of the winning Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) team, Carlos Brathwaite, has credited left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican for his role in turning around Friday’s One-Day match against Bangladesh “A”.
Brathwaite said Warrican’s spell of 10-2-28-2 was pivotal in clinching the match for the emerging West Indies players at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.
The visitors scored an 11-run victory over Bangladesh “A” in the first match of their limited-overs series, with the second match scheduled for today.
“When Jomel came on to bowl, the balance of power was 60-40 in Bangladesh A’s favour,” said Brathwaite. “And he completely turned the tide in our favour.”
Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul grabbed four for 29 from ten overs to lead the HPC’s bowling and built on a solid, all-round performance from Brathwaite who scored 64 and picked up two wickets.
The big all-rounder said that of all the contributions from his teammates it was their determination to win that impressed him most.
“The grit and determination to win was the most impressive part of the day,” said Brathwaite.
“The batting was a little more disciplined although we did not manage to bat all 50 overs, but we got pretty close.
“The fielding effort once again was tremendous, the discipline by the bowlers was commendable, and the drive to win was most impressive.” (CMC)
