Yet another top business executive has expressed the view that there are benefits to be gained from the global economic meltdown.
According to Damian McKinney, founder and chief executive officer of McKinney Rogers, while we live in an “incredibly turbulent world”, there are many opportunities available.
“I believe one of the biggest challenges we face today is our mind set,” he said.
McKinney was discussing Strategies For Global Expansion at Hilton Barbados during the recently held International Business Week Conference.
“We have developed a habit. Wherever I travel in the world, in many of the organisations I’m involved in, you can feel it.
“Particularly, there is this sense that we are now playing not to lose. Imagine going on the sports field and saying I hope we don’t lose by too many goals,” he said,
McKinney noted that “we are being presented with a most amazing opportunity where in many respects the playing field of the world has been levelled”, but conceded that it is somewhat uneven.
“The question is whether we embrace the opportunity or we hunker down and hope that some point in the future it will all go away and we can treat business as usual,” he said.
McKinney said the first rule of global expansion for any organisation is to have a code of conduct.
He stressed the importance of having a set of values which “define who you are and define the way in which you operate.” (NB)
