Dominican Republic star in whopper of a win

SANTO DOMINGO – Darling Batista led the way with a quintuple, and two others collected hat-tricks to lead the Dominican Republic to a record 17-0 plunder of the British Virgin Islands in the Digicel Caribbean Cup on Thursday.
Batista broke the deadlock in the fifth minute, as the hosts led 4-0 at half-time before he struck four times (67th, 68th, 72th, 79th minutes) in the second period in a match rescheduled for a mid-morning start.Inoel Navarro (26th minute, 47th and 81st) scored in the first stanza, and twice in the second while Domingo Peralta (22nd and 43rd minutes) switched that order around to help carry the Dominican Republic to the most emphatic victory in the history of the game not only in the
Caribbean Football Union but also CONCACAF.
Braces from Eric Ozuna (82nd and 90th) and Omar Reynoso (61st and 73rd), as well as Kelvin Severino (64th) and Gonzalo Frechilla (90+1) helped Dominican Republic complete the rout. (CMC)
