FEMALE DRIVER Jackie Linton says she is out to beat her male counterparts when the newly-formed Barbados Association of Drifters and Dragsters (BADD) holds the Redline/Twist/Banks Breweries/Guinness/Williams Equipment Drag Warz Race meet at Bushy Park on Saturday from 10 a.m.
Linton is no stranger to motorsport as she has seen top class action as navigator to her husband, former double club champion Adrian Linton. She is expected to be at the wheel of a well-prepared Nissan Sunny.
At a briefing meeting held at Banks Breweries, president of BADD, John Tiny Harrison, said over 100 races were on the day’s card and would be contested over an eighth of a mile as the straight at Bushy Park was not long enough for the longer distance.
Fifty drivers in cars ranging from standard street cars to highly tuned and modified machines are expected to keep each other extremely busy during a day of exciting action.
Harrison explained that it would come down to who got the better start, as top end speed would not play much of a pivotal role this time around.
He said that all the drivers competing had passed the safety test set by the Barbados Motor Federation in the event which is being staged with assistance from Redline, Twist, Banks Breweries, Guinness and Williams Equipment.
BADD’s public relations officer Nicholas Harrison said competition would be in three classes and he expected competition to be tight from start to finish.
Another similar event is scheduled to take place on December 5.
