Immigration officers charged

BELMOPAN, Belize – The Belize government has confirmed that charges have been laid against immigration officers after three planes landed at the Philip Godson International Airport after closing hours over the last weekend.
Media reports said that the planes with at least 32 passengers from Haiti and other Caribbean countries are the subject of a major investigation by the authorities in light of conflicting information regarding the nationalities of the passengers.
But Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of National Security, Allen Whylie, told local television on Monday night that the information on the arrival records indicate that the passengers were Japanese tourists.
Minister of Police Doug Singh told reporters that six people had been detained. (CMC)
