Stuart: DLP for the masses

There is a clear distinction between the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) and the Opposition and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart says he wants that line maintained.
According to Stuart, the DLP had a long and distinguished history of standing up for the masses of Barbados but every time the Opposition spoke it was for the cause of people at the top, who were quite capable of defending themselves.
Contending that the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) had been an advocate of trickle-down economics, Stuart said this concept suggested that the benefits and concessions should go to the people at the top and the poor would benefit from “the crumbs that fell from the table”.
Last night during a joint meeting of the Christ Church branches of the DLP at Christ Church Foundation School, Stuart said while he had nothing against the private sector, there were some services that could not be left to the market place.
He told party faithful: “We believe in the private sector; we believe in a mixed economy but the secret is in the mix.”
