Tickets to see Rihanna perform live in concert at Kensington Oval on August 5 should be at an affordable price.
This was the response from many of our Facebook readers when we asked what they would pay to see her perform. We asked if they would be willing to dole out between $100 and $300 for a ticket or any amount for a ticket.
The Barbados Tourism Authority announced on Wednesday that the Grammy Award-winner had signed a multi-year deal to exclusively promote Barbados as a tourist destination.
While most readers said they would pay more than $100 to see Rihanna, they said the price should still be attractive.This is what some had to say:
• Sandra Cumberbatch: As it is her hometown and a lot of people admire her here, it would be nice if her team could make the price affordable to as many people as possible. If she performs here again, then they should charge whatever they think is fair. As an ambassador, it would improve her popularity.
• Sue Morris: I hope that corporate Barbados throws some money in to help offset the cost for true fans who would love to see her, but might not be able to afford it. Considering this is our Grammy-winning international star, I certainly would pay the asking price to see her live in concert.
• Amy Scott-Simon: What people fail to realize is that at this concert she will not be a Bajan but an international star, so tickets will start (I’m hoping) at $100 to $125, the least. I mean if it’s cheaper, that will be fine. Once it’s between $100 and $600, I’ll be there!
• Donnah Russell: If it’s at the Oval, there should be cheap tickets ($20 to 30) in the far stands to give most people an opportunity to go.
• Javon Griffith: Rihanna has a host of shows here in the UK scheduled for December and the cheapest tickets I saw were £60, if I remember correctly. Based on that, I’d say $150 is a fair price for entry. Anybody who suggests anything under $120 can’t be thinking rationally.
• Kim Clarke: I really don’t care how much they charge, I’m going. I pay to see Jamaicans all the time, only to be disappointed with the majority of the show. She is an international star and I can’t imagine that the price will be cheap unless there is enough sponsorship to help offset the cost.
• Milo Serieux: I don’t know, but please bear in mind this will be held exactly after the Crop Over season when Bajans would have spent tons of money on the various events already. The pricing will make the difference in me seeing her live or chilling at home listening to her CD. (CM)
