Twelve stages?at three venues will test crews in the Motoring Club Barbados Inc.’s (MCBI) main event of their 2013 calendar, the Rally of the Sun and Stars, on September 14.
The annual event comes exactly two weeks after drivers settle the club’s McChlery Designs Just Bring It speed event from Isolation Road to Dark Hole, St Andrew and is expected to attract a full slate of competitors in all the classes, especially those who are in the hunt for last-minute points in the race for titles.
The rally will be of significance to drivers such as Rhett Watson, Josh Read, Ian Warren, Andrew Jones, Paul “The Surfer” Bourne and Roger “The Sheriff” Skeete.
Watson will be at the wheel of a BMW M3 while Read will race in a Toyota Starlet.
Warren, Watson and Andrew Jones are the front-runners in the race for overall and two-wheel drive honours.
Bourne, in a Ford Focus WRC07, and Skeete, who will be driving a Subaru Impreza WRC S12, are the rivals for four-wheel drive honours.
Stages one and four will be from Diamond Corner to Gays, while Lamberts to Pickering will be the venue for stages two and five. Sailor’s Gully to Welchtown has been pencilled in as stages three and six before crews go to the dinner halt.
The venues will be repeated for the remaining stages after dinner with stages seven and 10 from Diamond Corner to Gays; Lamberts to Pickering for stages eight and 11 and Sailor’s Gully to Welchtown for stages nine and 12.
Competition secretary and public relations officer David Stewart said scrutineering will be held at Greenland Agricultural Station from 11 a.m. on the day of the rally.
