More heavy showers today

BARBADIANS can expect more bad weather today.
The Barbados Meteorological Service (BMS) said the system that caused heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms yesterday would continue. It has also warned of the possibility of flooding.
Acting BMS  director Hampden  Lovell explained that a tropical wave interacting  with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone  was responsible  for the weather.
“The axis of the wave is due to move across Barbados within the next 18 to 24 hours during which time outbreaks  of moderate to heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms will continue to spread  across the island,” he  said in a special weather bulletin issued at 4 p.m.
“Wind speeds across the region continue to be very light and this will contribute to an element of localized activity [today]. With the already saturated nature  of the earth, some flash flooding is possible.”
Lovell advised residents in flood prone areas to take all necessary precautions  and remain on the alert.
