Miss Barbados World, Regina Ramjit, was assured by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, that she has his full support and that of the Government of Barbados when she competes in the Miss World pageant in Indonesia on Friday, September 27.
The 19 year-old beauty queen paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister recently at Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St Michael.
Ms Ramjit pointed out that the pageant would bring much needed attention to Barbados since millions of viewers were expected to tune in to the show. Mr Stuart told her that he was proud of her and that her involvement in the Miss World competition would bring “much distinction” to Barbados since she was not only representing herself but the island as well.
The aspiring paediatrician said she chose that career path because “I don’t like to see any child suffer. So if I can, I will do whatever I can to help”. It is no surprise then that she is involved in the local charity – The Wish Campaign – which grants the wishes of terminally ill children.
While Mr Stuart admitted that he did not get to watch a lot of television, he assured Ms Ramjit that he would be “looking out” for her during the Miss World broadcast.
“I wish you all the best and I hope when I see you next it will be as Miss World,” the Prime Minister said, adding: “However, once you do your best, whatever the result, we will still be very proud of you”. (MR/BGIS)
