WITH THE THREAT of strike action hanging over its head, a top official of LIME Barbados yesterday strongly denied reports the company was looking to relocate its regional operations from Barbados to Jamaica.
In answer to numerous complaints from members of the Barbadian public, managing director Alex McDonald also gave the assurance that LIME was not about to shelve plans for relocating its Contact Centre in St Lucia, possibly returning it to Barbados.
“People like to raise those (issues) as bogeymen from time to time but I am not sure that we have contemplated, in any meaningful way, that path,” he told the SUNDAY SUN.
However, in the face of strident demands by the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) for a 17 per cent pay hike for workers, he warned that sponsorship of local events could be affected as the telecommunications company grappled with escalating wage and other operating costs.
