Barbadians braved not only the sun, but also the sprinkling showers to get one last look at Prime Minister David Thompson who was leader of this country from January 2008.
Thompson’s family,  including his wife Mara, children Misha, Oya and Osa-Marie, parents Margaret Knight and Charles Thompson as well as his siblings, viewed the body which was lying in state in Parliament.
They were followed by dignitaries including Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Leader of the Opposition Owen Arthur, former Chief Justice Sir David Simmons and Sir Roy Trotman.
From as early as 9 a.m. hundreds of Barbadians filed past the body of the late leader, refusing to break the line even when the showers came. Instead, they pulled out umbrellas to shield themselves and kept position in the line.
Up until 2 p.m. there was still a snaking line with Barbadians eager to say farewell to their late Prime Minister.
Thompson, 48, died last Saturday at his private residence in Mapps, St Philip. He was battling pancreatic cancer.
