KINGSTON – West Indies were bowled out for 262 half-hour after lunch on the fourth day today, as India won the opening Test here by 63 runs with over a day to spare.
Resuming after lunch on 226 for nine, Devendra Bishoo (26) and Fidel Edwards (15 not out) extended their last wicket stand to 39 before India sealed victory.
Chasing 326 for victory, West Indies were undermined by seamers Praveen Kumar (3-42) and Ishant Sharma (3-81) who took three wickets apiece, and leg-spinner Amit Mishra (2-62).
West Indies started the day on 131 for three but lost three wickets inside the first hour to begin their decline.
Elegant stroke-maker Darren Bravo top scored with 41 after resuming the day on 30 while tail-ender Ravi Rampaul hit a cameo 34 from 32 balls. (CMC)
