Darren Matthews?of Team G4S Swift prevailed among the seniors for the second straight year but Russell Elcock stole the spotlight when the Barbados Cycling Union’s National Time Trial was contested last Sunday morning.
Elcock, who wore the jersey of AMOND Fugen, was not only the first junior home for the second straight year over the 18-kilometre trip but also had the fastest time.
Independent rider John Licorish also repeated as Masters champion in the race which saw the cyclists starting at Mile-and-a Quarter in St Peter and turning at Bennetts, St Thomas before returning to the start point.
The scheduled 6 a.m start was delayed by the inclement weather conditions, but the cyclists, who were on the line by 6:45 a.m., rode at blistering speeds to Bennetts, St Thomas.
The tiny mites, juveniles and women rode one lap while all other categories rode two laps.
Team Accessory Ms/Online Consultancies/Nature’s Discount AMOND Fugen was the outstanding team with first places in the tinymites, juveniles, women, juniors and masters over-50s categories. They also copped third places among the juveniles and juniors.
Team G4S Swift captured first and third places in the seniors, came second in the juniors and third in the masters.
A Class Batteries Golden Wheelers were in the winner’s circle as well capturing second and third places among the tinymites, third in the juveniles and second in the masters and masters over-50 categories.
Team Aspire’s Ian Maynard was second in the seniors category.
The 2011 National Road Race is scheduled for Sunday at 6 a.m at the Life of Barbados circuit on the ABC Highway. (PR/EZS)
