It did’t take long for Stuart Maloney to get to the top of the podium.
Cycling’s one-time dominant master has now taken his winning ways to the ultra-competitive senior field in just the season’s second event after capturing Sunday’s two-hour criterium on the Fontabelle circuit.
Taking advantage of the absence of top riders Darren Matthews, Jamol Eastmond and Russell Elcock, Maloney went one spot better than his riveting senior debut in St Philip by downing Fugen’s Darwin Griffith and Ross Callender of CGI G4S Team Swift.
This coming after Jason Perryman made an early break within the event’s first three laps in a blistering start to a race where the average lap time on the 1.7 kilometre circuit was two minutes and 29 seconds.
The peloton inevitably reeled him back in, though, before Maloney duked it out with Griffith, Callender and Perryman for the gruelling win.
Fugen’s Kristin Vanderpool took the juniors’ top spot, while Darius Ramsammy (A Class Batteries Golden Wheelers), Edward Julien (Independent), John Proverbs (Independent), Esther Miller-Rosemond (Fugen), Philip Als (Independent) and Tremaine Forde-Catwell (Swift) did likewise in the juvenile, masters, over-50s, women’s, novice and tiny mite categories respectively.
