Shared Adventure was in top form at the Garrison Savannah yesterday.
The H and M-owned colt easily destroyed his four other opponents in the Saint Valentine Handicap over 1 100 metres and in the process equalled the track record of 1:03.4 held by Super Star.
Trained by Boston John and partnered by his son Kenny John, the son of Wildcat Heir out of Starship Elaine ran his competition into the ground from the start.
Shared Adventure took the lead at the start, opening a three-length gap on his rivals. The others were left struggling from the gates and only Run Alke Run was bold enough to briefly stay alongside the big horse.
Kenny John then released a wrap, signalling a quick end to Run Alke Run’s feeble attempt. Having entered the home stretch, John quickly shut down the engine, allowing Shared Adventure to breeze to the line.
John was not done as he had to call on all his experience aboard the Christopher Gibbs-owned Kingdora to secure his second win in the Sweetheart Handicap over 1 570 metres.
No fewer than three horses flashed across the finish line in a blanket finish that required the photo finish camera to separate the trio of Kingdora, Indanger and Fusachi Ridge.
In the end the photo revealed that John’s mount Kingdora had just denied Indanger and jockey Jalon Samuel, along with Fusaichi Ridge ridden by Jarelle Beckles, in that order. Fourth was Capere, ridden by Anderson Trotman.
From the start, the trio of Rock Forever, Wild Fire and Run For Your Money all went for the lead with Indanger, Fusaichi Ridge and Kingdora stalking. The last three made their move at the two-furlong marker where the leaders all faltered. Nine-year-old Kingdora led into the home stretch and survived the attack.
The day will forever be a special day in the life of Romario Alleyne as he celebrated his maiden success as a trainer, scoring a double with both horses piloted by Jalon Samuel.
First, Stephen Kellman’s Johnny Sad Boy won the Cupid Handicap over 1 100 metres for four-year-old and older horses rated 27-50 and also horses rated 26 and below over 1 100 metres.
Then the Red And White Handicap, for four-year-old and older horses rated 12-35 and also horses rated 11 and below over 1 100 metres, was just the race for Sunset Farms The Milk Maid to gallop to victory.
