Surfing success for Allan

FRESH from a second place at the VQS Volcom Catfish series at the Domes in Rincon, Puerto Rico, young Barbadian surfer Ché Allan will be on the go again this weekend.
Thirteen-year-old Allan will compete at the Easter Surf Festival in Cocoa Beach, Florida, before heading on to the prestigious National Scholastic Surfing Association (NASA) East Coast Championships in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, April 4 to 7.
His main goal will be to qualify for the NSSA Nationals in California.
It will be the Caribbean Under-16 champion’s first Association of Surfing Professional (ASP) Ron Jon Quiksilver Junior Pro contest.
At the Volcom Catfish series, Allan surfed in chest-high conditions and easily advanced to the semi-finals. He won his semi-final heat to qualify for the six-man final where he got an excellent early wave with an eight-point score. However, he had difficulty finding a back-up wave of the same size.
As a result, Allan finished a close second overall in his 11-14 age group behind Stevie Pittman of the United States. This position qualifies him for the Volcom USA Championship at Newport Beach in California May 9 to 11.
Allan will be participating thanks to his sponsors Quiksilver, Channel Island Surfboards and Dragon shades. (EZS)
