Fontabelle closed to traffic

Strict traffic regulations will be in force today as thousands head to Kensington Oval for the Rihanna Loud concert, and the Royal Barbados Police Force is asking Barbadians to coordinate their routes accordingly.
The following areas will be restricted to traffic between 2 today until 2 a.m. Saturday:i. Fontabelle Road from its junction with President Kennedy Drive and Spring Garden Highway (Holborn Circle) to its junction with Lakes Folly and Redman Drive.  ii. President Kennedy Drive (PKD) from its junction with Westbury Road to its junction with Holborn circle.iii. Only public service vehicles will be allowed along the restricted part of PKD. iv. Vehicular traffic along Lakes Folly and Cheapside will travel along Redman Drive towards Prescod Boulevard.    Vehicular traffic will be diverted in the following manner:    • Vehicles travelling on Spring Garden Highway toward the City will turn right on to President Kennedy Drive.    • Vehicles travelling on Cheapside toward Fontabelle will turn righton to Lakes Folly or left on to Redman Drive.        • Vehicles travelling on Kensington New Road toward Fontabelle will turn left on to Fontabelle Road.Traffic signs and or police officers will be positioned at these junctions to facilitate the movement of all traffic.Vehicles will not be allowed to park or remain stationary on the following roads except for the purpose of setting down or picking up passengers: Fontabelle Road, President Kennedy Drive, Redman Drive, Spring Garden Highway, Prescod Boulevard, University Row, Baxters Road, Westbury Road, the road leading to Hanschell Inniss and the area east of the 3Ws Stand.
A park and ride system will also be in effect. The Transport Board will operate from the following locations to Kensington Oval: the National Cultural Foundation, the National Stadium, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Lester Vaughn School, the gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Complex, Queen’s College, and St Leonard’s School (for the physically challenged).
Passengers using the park and ride vehicles will disembark on President Kennedy Drive behind the 3Ws Stand and opposite Central Purchasing.Parking for the following people will be at these locations: Luxury VIPs – BTI high rise car park on Princess Alice Highway and the Hincks Street car park; Members of Parliament – Kensington Court and Central Purchasing Department.
In the event of an emergency at the venue, the following route will be used: President Kennedy Drive, Westbury Road, Passage Road, Country Road, Roebuck Street, Halls Road, Martindales Road.
Provisional traffic signs will be displayed at the following areas to enforce traffic restrictions, diversions and prevent illegal parking and police officers will be posted at the following locations in order to assist with traffic flows and enforce the traffic restrictions. People are required to follow the directions of police officers in uniform. (PR)
