BARBADIANS ARE RUSHING to buy fans and air-conditioning units as they battle the intense heat which the island has been experiencing for the past two months.
Arlene Holder, assistant operations manager of ShopSmart, said the retail outlet had seen a “significant increase” in the number of fans sold for the past three weeks.
Noting that she, too, was affected by the unbearable heat, Holder said: “We received a shipment on the last Friday in May and by the Monday, all of the fans were gone. As a result, we had to immediately order another shipment.
“And we don’t bring in a couple fans; we bring in hundreds of fans in a shipment.”
