Prunes Holder shares her thoughts on her second pregnancy.
“In the first trimester I was very sick but once I got past that, I started to enjoy my pregnancy. This time my pregnancy is very different to my experience with my son. My tummy grew very quickly, causing my husband to think I was having twins – but when we had the ultrasound, we discovered there was only one baby. He was a bit disappointed but I was more relieved. He still thinks the results could be wrong.
“At this point I spend a lot of time talking and singing to the baby and calling the baby by name. Our families are looking forward to the baby’s arrival and my husband and I are no different as we eagerly anticipate seeing and holding our baby.
“My husband has also been a major support for me. He does the various chores around the house and allows me to rest when I get home as I am usually tired and my feet are always swollen by that time.
“We love our family and we look forward to providing a loving environment for the baby.”
Describe your personal style. I think my style is simple but elegant.
As a child, were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense? As a child, clothes were the least of my worries. I was too busy being a “tomboy”. As I got older, my awareness of fashion and trends developed.
Do you find that you follow fashion trends or do you play by your own rules? I generally go by my own rules. I am not a big fan of going to an event and seeing 99 per cent of the women in the same style I am wearing.
Are there any colours that you tend to shy away from and if so, why? Unlike some people who think they can’t wear certain colours, I think everyone can look good in any colour but you need to select the shade in that colour to suit your skin tone. So I love to add colour to my wardrobe.
Do you like to see the belly-out fashion in pregnant mums? With reference to clothing, no I do not. I personally find it to be in poor taste. However, I have developed an appreciation for the portraits of pregnant mums.
How does your pregnancy factor into your wardrobe choices for work and play? My options are a bit limited, but the adjustment is part of the process.
Does it take you a longer or shorter time to get ready now that you are pregnant? I am starting to slow down a lot more now than earlier in my pregnancy.
Are there days when you can’t find anything to wear? Initially, yes, but now I have specific pieces of clothing for work and social outings.
Heels or flats for the pregnancy? Comfortable flats.
Do you think it is important to look great and feel great during pregnancy? Most definitely. I have found that when you pay more attention to how you look and carry yourself during pregnancy it enhances how you feel and makes you less grumpy.
Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you? No. I look for comfort and elegance. Once I have that combination, it does not matter the designer.
