The Nation’s Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What’s Trending today in Barbados
With the start of the London Olympics yesterday, many Barbadians have been commenting on the opening ceremony, which some have described as boring, when compared to the last Olympics in Beijing. Others disagreed, saying it was a great display of culture and history.
These were some of the comments posted on our Facebook page.
Patrice Mottley: “The show was a bit boring … can’t beat Beijing.”
Yvonne White: “Beijing is Beijing, The UK is the UK. People should stop comparing the two. The show was really good and even though I live miles from the Olympic stadium, I could hear the fireworks from my house. Go on team GB, BARBADOS AND JAMAICA.”
Conchita Moseley: “Beijing is Beijing, London is London and the country winning the next Olympic bid will be putting on their own performance. It is not about comparing. Twenty nine million views and I don’t believe that a few negative comments from those who simply want to criticize the ceremony is going to make a difference. The Games is about bringing all the people in the world as one. I wish all the competitors luck regardless of which country they are from. (Forget the political issues and enjoy the Games).”
