ALEXANDRA PRINCIPAL Jeff Broomes was yesterday described as a man with two personalities who felt some of his teachers were out to get him, and who made The Alexandra School a virtual battleground.
This description came from chemistry teacher and head of the Science Department, Amaida Greaves, the woman at the centre of industrial action by teachers of The Alexandra School in January.
Greaves, who spent the entire day on the witness stand after denying Broomes’ speech day charge that she had not taught a class for an entire term, told The Alexandra Commission of Inquiry yesterday that the principal often crushed some teachers’ initiatives.
She recalled as an example returning from a course in California, United States, and attempting to form three groups – boys, girls and mixed – in an experiment to assess how boys thought, but when she told Broomes of it, he ordered her the dismantle the groups.
