Christ Church?Foundation?seized the early initiative as their bowlers kept the Lester Vaughan batsmen in check on the first day of their clash in the final of the Goddard Enterprises Schools’ Competition, yesterday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat on a good pitch, the Lester Vaughan lads were restricted to 102 for eight in 55 overs due to some accurate and penetrative bowling from the Foundation bowlers.
Lester Vaughan lost a wicket in the very first over of the day’s play when opening batsman Kyle Yearwood was bowled by Letrell Callendar without scoring and another in the second when Shavon Brooks was caught at the wicket off the bowling of Shakeel Knight, also without getting off the mark.
The “Cane Garden” batsmen never recovered from their early losses and slumped to 86 for eight at one stage.
Only a stubborn and sensible unbeaten knock of 38 from Stefan Nurse saved them from total embarrassment.
Nurse has so far batted for 123 minutes and has struck two fours in his knock. Fast bowlers Knight (3-32) and Callendar (2-17) were the most successful bowlers for Foundation. Play continues today at 1 p.m.
