Mottley: We want to know

Leader of the Opposition?Mia Mottley has called on Government to tell?Barbadians the anticipated increase in the cost of foreign borrowing given the latest downgrade in the country’s credit rating.
Mottley yesterday threw out the challenge to Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler in a list of 15 questions for which she wanted answers in his promised Ministerial?Statement in the House of Assembly during the first week in?December.
On Wednesday, one of the top three international credit rating agencies, Standard & Poor’s, which last year had junked Barbados’ investment grade rating, downgraded the country’s long-term rating from BB-plus to BB-minus and posted a negative outlook on its economic performance.
This came against the backdrop of a recent Government decision to postpone a US$250 million bond issue on the international capital markets in less than favourable conditions and an apparent lack of interest by major institutional investors. (AB)
