A St Michael mother of six found herself without a roof over her head yesterday morning after the house she owned at Ashdeane Village, Black Rock, was dismantled following execution of an eviction order by the court.
Desiree Jackson told the DAILY NATION court marshals turned up yesterday morning along with uniformed police and advised her that the house was about to be taken down, forcing her to hastily remove her belongings.
Jackson said her house had occupied the spot owned by Horace Beckles for several years, but she had been asked to quit and subsequently taken to court by the landlord in 2007 when, she said, the court had given her time to remove the wooden house.
She added she was again served notice to quit last May and last week she was informed by a writ server that she had to leave in ten days.
The distraught woman said she had been making unsuccessful appeals to the Urban Development Commission (UDC) for assistance with another house for the “last five years” and last week had tried to speak to parliamentary representative Chris Sinckler, “but he was in the House [of Assembly]”.
Four of Jackson’s six children, ages ten, eight, four and three months, live with her.
Landlord Beckles declined comment to the DAILY NATION yesterday as he, along with marshals, a police officer and curious neighbours, looked on while friends assisted Jackson in moving her household effects onto the street.
Yesterday evening, MP Sinckler said that a house had been found for Jackson by the UDC and arrangements had been made for temporary accommodation until it was cleaned and prepared.
