Dennis Blackman, a 50-year-old man of Sea View, St James, will appear in court this morning charged with murdering Police Constable Dexter Yarde on August 22, 2004.
Yarde was shot dead at Vauxhall Beach, St James after he and another police officer responded to a call about a burglary at a Holetown residence.
It was earlier announced by then Acting Commissioner of Police Bertie Hinds that Yarde was a victim of police fire during an exchange with the suspect.
However, a coroner’s inquest determined that the 31-year-old policeman did not die in friendly fire.
Here, Blackman (centre) is escorted by two officers of the Major Crime Unit yesterday on his way to the cells at Central Police Station.
