Arthur wants growth plan

Former Prime Minister, Professor Owen Arthur is calling for a growth strategy, inclusive of renewable energy, to get Barbados out of its economic malaise.

In a public presentation organised by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) Wednesday night at the Cave Hill campus  Arthur argued that Government’s Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme does not address growth.

The long-standing economist who also served as Minister of Finance between 1994 and 2008 in a Barbados Labour Party (BLP) administration said: “There is no set of measures to spur growth in the short or medium terms.”

He added: ”Barbados is expected to have negative growth (in 2019) once again.”
