Sealy: Crime fight in Gap

MINISTER OF TOURISM Richard Sealy is satisfied that local authorities are doing all they need to do to tackle crime in this country and get it back under control.
Speaking days after a security guard was hospitalized with stab wounds following a robbery attempt in the St Lawrence Gap area, Sealy said a number of initiatives had been put in place in the St Lawrence and Maxwell areas, including the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) on that entire stretch. He said that electronic surveillance had been useful in arrests.
The minister said the installation of the CCTVs was an investment by Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. and other private sector agencies. Given the success of that venture, he said, it was necessary for all the relevant agencies to come on board and work together in dealing with the issue of crime.
Sealy said he was concerned about crime in general, not only those offences committed against tourists. He said that while he understood there was a difference between the two,  “crime is crime”.  (YB)
