‘Check colleges’ credentials’

STUDENTS who attend overseas institutions should check out the accreditation of such institutions and their programmes to avoid confusion when they return to Barbados looking for a job.
This warning was issued by chairman of the Barbados Accreditation Council, Yvonne Walkes, because some graduates find that their certification by some institutions is rejected by the relevant local bodies.
Walkes was speaking against the background of recent Government concern that a number of dental students had difficulty practising their skills here after doing their programmes at the University of the West Indies St Agustine Campus in Trinidad.
Walkes, speaking generally, encouraged students to check with the Barbados Accreditation Council “and then we would give you a certified statement detailing the institution, its status in the country and if the programme is accredited”.
