TALK BACK: Readers big on Rihanna for Christmas

Season’s greetings to all our readers, both print and online.
But even though the feeling of Christmas is still in the air, our online readers had anything but on their minds this past week, with other issues dominating THE NATION’S website and Facebook page.
Rihanna’s brush with a racial slur which appeared in the latest issue of the Dutch fashion magazine Jackie and the resignation of its editor-in-chief was one topic that had readers whirling.
The Barbadian pop star was described as a “n****r b***h”.
Erica Rogers Compton wrote: “Europe is still 90 per cent racist, especially Germany. I encounter racism every single day, and we would think people are more educated in this time and age and are moving forward.
Shaneza Sharmila Bacchus: “This is the right outcome for [the editor’s] stupidity. She is the editor and as such bore full responsibility for what goes past her into print.
Personally, I’ve encountered racism wherever I’ve been and as I get older, I learn to ignore it. What really took me by surprise and has left quite a sour impression is that the worst racism I have ever dealt with was in Barbados, my home.
Thora Jones: “There are two sides to every story. Rihanna is not exactly a poster girl for good behaviour. Now that her European tour has come to an end, I predict Rihanna will stir up controversies to stay in the news. The editor should not have resigned. Rihanna uses the “N” word and the “B” word to name Blacks and women on her Twitter page almost on a daily basis. . . .”
When two murderers who spent over 50 years (jointly) in prison for separate offences, were released this past week, our readers followed them as they walked to freedom. This is what they said:
Jan Skinner: “Brutally killed and now longing for this day. How do we determine the length of time to be spent in comparison to a life taken?”
Devaron Bruce: “The men paid their dues, 25 plus years of their lives. Why the ridicule? It’s not like they walked off free.
