Over two dozen PEOPLE braved heavy rains yesterday as they planted 100 trees at Barclay’s Park, St Andrews, as part of a National Conservation Commission’s (NCC) project in association with Wibisco’s 100th anniversary celebration.
Students from the Queen’s College and Harrison College’s Key Clubs, Lester Vaughn Greenlanders, members of the NCC and staff of Wibisco joined forces as they planted 100 trees with the idea of A Tree For Every Child, a four year campaign undertaken by the NCC which is in its third year.
According to human resource manager of Wibisco, Laina Jacob, as part of the company’s 100th anniversary, planting the trees was a part of “giving back” to the nation.“We wanted to give back to our customers and the environment. So we decided that we would go in conjunction with the NCC to plant trees,” she said.
The presidents from the various school clubs said taking part in the tree planting exercise was a very significant step for them. They said it was an effective way of helping to preserve the environment. (MM)
