LIAT YESTERDAY said it had resumed normal services after a two-day sickout by its pilots crippled the operations of the regional airline.A total of 244 scheduled flights were cancelled during the two-day work stoppage affecting approximately 6 500 passengers. The impasse cost the airline an estimated BDS$2 million. A visit to the Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday revealed no lines of waiting passengers, neither did we see any of the passengers who were stranded over the last two days.The representatives at the check-in desk declined comment on whether the flights were running on schedule, but the Arrivals board showed that the flights scheduled between 1:20 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. were “on time”.In a Press release yesterday, the airline stated that all affected passengers were being allowed to rebook without additional costs, but warned that it “cannot guarantee travel to passengers who turn up at the airport without confirmed bookings”.The airline said that while the company is “doing everything to minimise the effect on passengers, they are being advised that for the rest of the day they should expect delays”.The pilots, represented by their union, the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association, stayed off the job to press LIAT’s management to settle a number of outstanding grouses, which they argue had been left to linger for too long.
