Notre Dame rally past Hope United in quarters

CLAYTONS Kola Tonic Notre Dame survived a double scare, twice coming from behind to edge Division 3 side Shawn Hope United 3-2 in their Banks Knockout Cup quarter-final football clash at the National Stadium on Thursday night.St Lucy schoolboy Jamar Grazette gave the Rock Dundo, St James-based Shawn Hope United a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute but DeCarlo Jemmott equalised three minutes later for the Dames.Troy Parris converted from the penalty spot, a minute later to put Shawn Hope United ahead again after goalkeeper Morrison Taylor brought down Sheldon Sandiford.But Gerard Griffith also brought down Dames’ midfielder Renaldo Gilkes in the area and skipper John “Nobby” Parris hammered home the resulting penalty to lock the score 2-2 on the stroke of half-time.Dames had to wait until the dying moments to score the winner with substitute Ryan Lucas tapping home Bryan Neblett’s pass across the goal mouth. Dames will now play Brittons Hill in the semi-finals tomorrow at 8 p.m., following a 6 p.m. clash between Luck Horseshoe Ellerton and Sunrise. (EZS)
