Union, employers to meet

Sugar stakeholders are set to meet today with the Barbados Workers’ Union and the Barbados Employers Confederation on a new two-year collective agreement effective January 1 this year.
Apart from money matters, discussions will also deal with the health of the workers and the transformation of the sugar industry.
It is expected that the date for the start of the sugar cane harvest will be announced after the meeting.
But even as the negotiations continue, plantation workers are busy in the fields preparing to plant next year’s canes.
