THREE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS are the recipients of  $30 000 in scholarship funds courtesy of the Rotary Club of Barbados West.
Chairman of the club’s scholarship committee, Joe Steinbok, said the proceeds came from two golf tournaments at Sandy Lane.
“We asked corporate Barbados to sponsor a team for $10 000, and we had 18 teams which is $180 000 and this went into a fund,” he said.
Steinbok was speaking yesterday  during a media conference at the Ministry of Education, Constitution Road, St Michael.
Steinbock said this year would be the first time three students were awarded scholarships so they also split the funds into three parts  – one full scholarship winner with $15 000 and two half scholarships at $7 500 each.
The winners were Janene Corbin, who is studying sociology and law; Jamil Sealy, who is studying information technology and management, and Karen Bellamy who is pursuing a degree in psychology.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones praised the efforts of the club and the hard work of the students, adding that they were “fortunate to be counted”.
